Nothing Really Interesting

This is just a quick note to let people know I'm alive and well. I'll write about the Seattle trip some other time. For now we're house-hunting and I'm still volunteering.

Heh. There's a house across the street from us for sale. Sounds like you're looking to build, but hey, we love our neighborhood, and it's 3 blocks from the foothills open space (just east of Comanche and Tramway). These houses were luxury places in the 70s, and they're still nice. The architecture is a little more unusual than what you find in a lot of recent homes.

Which, of course, underscores that we really ought to have you over sometime.

I forwarded your comment to Andy. I know I'd definitely be interested, especially if it has more than the sliver of land which seems to predominate in not-yet-built homes. Of course the 3% deal we may get for building a new house might be a deciding factor, if we happen to find an already-built house which is enough like what we're looking for, we might go for it.

3% financing? That is pretty sweet. These homes do have fairly substantial yards for Albuquerque. They were built before the lawn restrictions.

Are you looking in a specific price range?

No minimum, so long as the house isn't, say, condemned. The ceiling is about 300k, which is why new-built homes are so appealing.

OK, ours is a $200K - $250Kish neighborhood, so it might be worth checking out.

Our house was actually larger than we intended to buy, but hubby inherited a huge book collection from his father, so we wanted a "two living area" (weird term for a house with a living room and family room that I'd never heard before house-hunting) so that we could turn the other living area into a library.

It's worked pretty well, but we now have all the books up on brick'n'board shelves because we want to do attractive bookcases, and that's just going to take time and money to get done. Pretty funny looking, actually.

It's not 3% financing, it's a 3% discount on the price of the house. It looks like we'll be able to get something like 5% financing on a 30-year mortgage, which still strikes me as being reasonable.

All the same, if I could get a 3% mortgage I'd probably pounce on it...

Heh. I'd pounce on a 3% mortgage?

We recently refinanced and got around 5% That was down 1.5 points from just the previous year, when we bought it. We live in interesting times.

Good (continuing) luck in the hunt.
