The guys who installed the wiring probably never even thought about doing two types of wire. They were probably told, "the customer wants to use this." That's been my experience with wiring. One question about it, though. Did you get your spool back? I bought a spool of Cat5 to do the computer wiring for our first house and they did it ok, but then took off with the spool. :-(
