Do you have drip irrigation installed? You're going to need it with that many plants. Watering by hand here gets to be a lot of work. Terran and I installed a dripper for the front yard that I'm fairly satisfied with.
I also agree that 6ft apart sounds a little close, so I think it's good that you decided to move them a little farther apart.
