After dropping Andy off at school today I went grocery shopping. On Sunday we were a bit preoccupied, so didn't get it done then, and yesterday was GNO (and the second half of the Cowboy Bebop movie. Andy had suggested the whole "shop while I work thing" after I'd decided to do just that, because I had a Cunning Plan (tm). Two shopping trips later and I was home for the afternoon, and began preparations for this evening.

For those of you just joining us, Andy and I met on PernMUSH in August of 1992. I don't have the specific date we met (we became friends quickly, but it'd be a year and three months before we actually started going out, so there was no reason to notice him when we first ran into each other). Anyway, I decided that today would be a good day to celebrate our tenth anniversary of knowing one another. Not only is it late enough in August that it might be feasible that we had met already, but it gives a bit of breathing room between now and his birthday, and it's also happening before I leave him alone for a few days. On another note, it means that Thena has been with me for at least ten years as well -- I adopted her in late July or early August of 1992.

Anyway, to celebrate I made buttermilk chicken, got some Martinelli's sparkling cider (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tyee for having it at her wedding and to [livejournal.com profile] esmerel and [livejournal.com profile] merlinofchaos for telling me about half a jillion times who made the stuff). We also had unadulterated peach cobbler with a twist. When I'd originally bought the peaches I read "spiced" as "sliced", so I got a bit of a surprise when I opened the can and saw, instead of slices, whole peaches including the pits. Luckily I'd gotten myself some fresh peaches, so I peeled, sliced, and used them for the cobbler. Andy said it was pretty good. I also gave him a marble I'd been stashing away for his birthday; it's a really pretty purple, of which he has few or no others, and together with the paperweight I gave him to welcome him home from Siggraph, they make up the marble I designed for him some eight or nine years ago but never found anywhere. The whole anniversary thing took him completely by surprise, and he'd only figured out I was up to a vague something this afternoon, so I'm happy.

I got my medic alert bracelet today. I know I'll get used to it, but for now it feels a bit weird -- I haven't worn a wristwatch in years and I own no bracelets. It's also strange, at least to me, that I'm supposed to wear it at all times, even when showering or swimming. Anyway, the reason I finally up and got it was due to my trip in two days. If something happens to me around here all they need to do is scan my University hospital ID and they'd know everything. All of my serious medical diagnoses have been in the past year, so they'd literally have no information on me if anything were to happen there.

We didn't hear from Denny or Heather today which probably means that everything is fine. I'll e-mail her before I leave for Rome, though I don't know how long it'll be before she can navigate the basement stairs again and get to her computer. I'll update as soon as I find out further news.
