On the other hand, I'm interested in discussing both with people already in the know or who don't care about being spoiled.

Anyway, I liked the movie. I wouldn 't have wanted to be he person making the cuts from the book, given how pivotal the book is. The young woman who plays Luna Lovegood is perfect, as was the older woman who plays Dolores Umbridge. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] echoweaver that the montage headline scenes were a great way to bridge gaps. A couple of memorable lines were reassigned, and I was happy with the change. Oh, and Kingsley Shacklebolt's actor may well end up on my "guys who could read a telephone book out loud and I'd be enraptured" list.

I was very happy with the book, mostly because the two possible plot points I feared most didn't occur. It ties up many of the loose ends I remember from earlier books, though I do want to know one character's fate in a very vindictive (ie, I hope the person dies the most humiliating and painful death possible) sort of way. The epilogue was a nice touch, though again I wish it had went into great gory detail of what happened to the aforementioned character. And perhaps in less gory detail about what happened to one of the latecoming supportive characters. Some of the mighty fell, some of the meek inherited, I believe Echoweaver will be very happy with how one character turned out, some fundies will be foaming at the mouth, and the rest I'll leave for those who plan to read the book.

Which two characters are you talking about? (I've seen the movie and finished Book 7, so you can't spoil anything for me)

The movie was okay, but I was pretty disappointed by the final big scene. That was the first summer blockbuster I've ever walked out of and thought, 'You know what, that could've used more explosions.'

I agree, I found the final scene to be a bit of a let down. I saw an interview beforehand with one of the actors, who promised a fight scene like never seen before on film, yet I find myself wishing they'd gone farther. Particularly with certain decorative elements.

Another thing I wish they'd gone father with in the movie was the dramatic exit of two supporting characters.
