Andy and I gave blood today -- despite my worries, none of the meds I'm taking interfere, so long as I donate whole blood. In three days we can call and get our blood types. There's a chance Andy might be "o" according to his grandmother, who has worked in blood typing and other such for thirty-two years and who also knows the blood type of all of her children. We got some cute t-shirts (reindeer with ornaments/lights which had the various blood types on them) and glorified lunch boxes from the store which was hosting the drive. It wasn't the Red Cross but a local hospital, and they mentioned that all of the blood would stay local. When I mentioned to Andy that I wasn't altogether comfortable with that since it might mean blood would go unused, he said that they have deals with other blood banks to eliminate that possibility. We also found out that a potential trip to London won't make us ineligible to give blood so long as we stay there for only a week or so.

After donating we headed over to campus. I waited at the Carolina Inn and did a crossword puzzle while Andy ran over to Sitterson and got the paperwork to make his postdoc position official. Tomorrow the fact that he's a doc becomes official. We all had dinner at a restaurant within walking distance of the hotel and then headed over to our place for Harry Potter and a nice fire. Erin hadn't seen the first movie yet and we'll probably be going to see the second tomorrow or when we're in Indy. Her SO, Owen, is a neat guy. He likes Monty Python, which is a big point in his favor. He and Erin are sharing a one-room apartment (as in, the whole thing is one big room) in a converted factory. I recommended they go to an office supply store and buy some cubicle walls.

Once they left Andy and I hung out and I did a load of laundry. It's been raining all day, so I didn't get my usual walk in -- hopefully tomorrow I will. I figured we'd walk to commencement, but apparently it's out in the middle of nowhere, and perhaps I was oversensitive, but it seemed to me like his grandmother was having some amount of trouble walking. On an amusing side note, we got a Christmas card from his parents in today's mail.
