Name That Reference

Andy and I have been putting off clothes-buying for quite a while, and as a result most of our clothes are pretty bedraggled. The other day, after I noticed that my pants had more elastic than cloth showing around the waist, I asked him if I could get some emergency pants. The end result is that a Land's End order has been placed and Andy has been randomly laughing about the term "Emergency pants" since last night.

I seem to think I did not coin the phrase, but I can't remember where I might have seen it. It sounds like something a Sluggy Freelance character might say; I'm pretty certain it isn't Animaniacs or Calvin and Hobbes. If anyone out there has an idea, please let me know.

It is, in fact, a Sluggy reference, at least in part.

da_zhuang and a friend of his did a set of filler strips for Pete , with Riff and Torg broadcasting from the EMERGENCY PANTS NETWORK.


I made myself a pair of pants later, and I generally call them my emergency pants, as I tend to wear them when I've got nothing else I can quickly and easily put on in the morning or late evening. If you ask Clay, he can probably point you at the very strips he did :)
